A Modern American Crisis
(With Apology to Thomas Paine)
These are indeed the times that try Americans’ souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot are trying to avoid the fundamental obligations of an American, to defend freedom and liberty; but those who continue to stand and fight for these principles, NOW, will deserve the love and thanks of future generations. The current attempt for Socialism, like hell, will not be easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. The current generation of the American people have not valued their Freedoms and Liberty, they have received these blessings too easily and thus they have taken them for granted. It is the preciousness that gives every thing its value. God only knows how to set a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed, if so celestial articles as FREEDOM and LIBERTY should not be highly valued. This current administration, with its cadre of minions, the press, Congress and unions, are attempting to enact a form of government that most Americans do not desire or embrace. This administration has declared, they have a right (not only to tax and spend) but to pass laws that will bind us and future generations and if being bound, against our will in that manner, is not a form of slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery. Even the attempt for unlimited power, the attempt to destroy our basic Rights and Liberty which is a total disregard of the fundamental principles of America, this so unlimited a power only belongs to GOD from which these basic Rights and Liberty have come.
I will not now enter into as an argument as to whether the American people have waited too long to get involved in the fight to save our Liberty and Freedoms: My humble opinion is, that had it been this attempted take over and change has been in the process for generations, and if the American people had realized that this was happening earlier, it would have been much better. We have not made proper use of the information, technology or the education that has been part of our lives. Instead, we have allowed us (either the US or ourselves there) to become a dependent state. However, the fault, if there is one, is all our own; we have no one to blame but ourselves. But all is not lost yet; with everything that the administration and congress have been doing for the past eighteen months, the speeds, the size of the bills were not only to transform America, but to demoralize and in turn conquer the American people. However, the spirit of the American citizens that began to surface a little over a year is being noticed, the enemy is aware of the growing spirit and they know that with time and a resolution, America will recover.
I may not be the most religious person, but my secret opinion has always been, and still is, that GOD almighty will not give up a people who have maintained a belief in Him and the Rights that he has generously granted our nation to destruction by those who chose to ignore His will. Nor do I believe that He will leave us to perish under the burden of a socialist agenda, we who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to be the beacon of Freedom for the world. Neither do I disbelieve that HE has relinquished the government of the greatest nation in the world, and given us up to the care of devils; I cannot see on what grounds this President, his administration, and congress can look up to heaven for help against us: A common murderer, a bank robber, or a housebreaker, has as good a pretense as they.
I find it not very surprising to see how rapidly a panic and despair has run through the people of America. All peoples of the nations of the world, though the ages have been subject to them: the people of Britain during World War 2 trembled at the report of a German fleet of flat bottomed boats in France preparing for invasion and the constant bombing during the Blitz. Also during World War 2, when Germany unexpectedly invaded the Soviet Union. The people when Saigon fell at the end of the Vietnam War. Yet panic and despair, in some cases, has their use; they can produce as much good as hurt. Their duration is always short; the mind soon grows through them, and acquires a firmer commitment than ever before. But their peculiar advantage is that they are the touchstones of sincerity and hypocrisy, and bring things and men to light, things which might not otherwise have lain forever undiscovered. In fact, they have the same effect on secret traitors, them same way an imaginary apparition would upon a private murderer. They sift out the hidden thoughts and feelings of man, and hold them up in public to the world. Many a disguised progressive and people with agendas have slowly been exposed.
I know that there are a number of us who have worn the uniform of our great country and fought against an outside enemy. During that fight, we too have experienced despair and low morale. We have seen things going on in America and wondered, is it worth it? We saw America slowly changing, but we held to our cause. Now, a lot of us are fighting again, this time against an internal enemy. An enemy that wants to completely change the country we love. The one big difference, the people of America are waking up and they are joining in the fight. Some realize that this is an outgoing battle and we will face some defeats, which we all ready have, I will elaborate them. I have seen that with each of these “defeats”, a form of panic and despair has slowly infiltrated the movement. Some have completely stopped trying. Some have half heartily continued to fight. Others have even said privately, “Why bother, they (Congress) are not listening?” So, what do you do, think about this, from January 1776, to December, 1776, George Washington’s army was facing defeat upon defeat, and the future American people were facing panic and despair. YET they persisted and with the aid of Thomas Paine and his American Crisis 1 in December 1776 (from which I borrowed for this), the American people rallied as did Washington’s troops. The rest as they say is history.
Now, are you going to be a summer soldier and a sunshine patriot who will to avoid the fundamental obligations of an American, to defend freedom and liberty; because we have faced some defeats? Or will you continue to stand and fight for the principles that have made this country great. Will you take a stand and justly deserve the love and thanks of future generations or will submit to the despair of a few defeats. Will you allow those defeats to question the worth of the fight or will you pick yourself up, brush yourself off and continue to fight. It is between you and your God.
